Festival Season 2017: The top 5 to get excited about this summer

Summer is fast approaching and each and every one of us students knows what that means. Festival season.

Everyone absolutely loves going to a festival, listening to amazing music, drinking with friends and creating the best memories.

But which festival should you go to this summer? Which festival has the best line up? And which festival is the best value for money? I’m going to take you through the top 5 festivals for this summer!

1. Parklife Festival, June 11-12th, Heaton Park, Manchester

Parklife has an amazing lineup in store for 2017. The festival is definitely diverse and provides something for everyone’s music tastes. From house, to techno, to pop to grime. The festival has gone from strength to strength each year boasting better artists each time.

This year headlining the festival is British band The 1975 and American artist Frank Ocean who recently brought out his critically acclaimed album ‘Blonde’ so this year is set to be a great one.

Prices for this festival range from a single day ticket being £59.50 and a weekend ticket pricing up at £99.50.

2. V Festival, August 19th-20th, Hylands Park in Chelmsford, Weston Park in Staffordshire

Why should you be excited about V Festival? Well if you didn’t already know Jay Z is headlining the 2 day festival and the V Festival press release states he will perform a “decades worth of hits”.

Who doesn’t want to hear ’99 problems’ in a crowd full of thousands of people! The other headliner for the festival is Pink who also marked her return to music after recently collaborating with last years headliner Sia on song ‘Waterfall’.

Other artists performing are Clean Bandit, Stormzy, and Madness. This festival is set to be a good one with weekend ticket prices starting at £189.00.

3. Lovebox Festival, July 14-15th, Victoria Park, London

Lovebox has definitely upped its game line up wise this year. The festival has Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac doing a set across the weekend, along with Solange Knowles who makes her UK festival debut after the success of ‘A Seat At The Table’ which received rave reviews from critics.

Lovebox  was created by duo Groove Armada is said to be a ‘colourful weekend’ with fairground rides, quirky food stalls and amazing music. The weekend ticket comes at a price though as the tickets are now on fourth release – so a ticket will cost you around £127.

4. Wireless Festival, July 7th-9th, Finsbury Park, London

Wireless Festival was slammed last year after it’s lineup came out months late and is said to have disappointed the masses. But they’ve definitely made up for it this year.

The urban London based festival has an amazing roster of artists performing over the weekend. Swedish singing sensation Zara Larsson is to perform as are grime group the Section Boyz. The Weeknd is set to bring his ‘Starboy, Legend Of The Fall’ tour to London this year to close the festival and Sean Paul is also making a comeback at Wireless this year (I’m definitely jealous of anyone seeing him this summer).

Tickets for the day start at £55 and a full 3 day weekend ticket is £160.

5. Festival Internacional de Benicàssim, July 13th-16th

Benicassim-Festival

Benicassim festival is a bit ‘out there’. By out there I mean in Spain. And by Spain I mean near Barcelona. Yes, this festival will take you to the sunny country of Spain so it will give you a festival and a holiday all in one!

The festival, although in Spain attracts a lot of British sun seekers to it for a few days of sun, music and booze. The lineup has Spanish acts such as Los Planetas, and then English artists such as The Courteeners. Headlining the festival is world renowned band The Red Hot Chilli Peppers so this is a festival you shouldn’t be missing!

You can either camp in the centre of the Spanish town at ‘Villa-camp’, or you can grab a hotel near the festival site and go from there! For a weekend at this sunny paradise you’re looking at paying €149 (euros) which I think is an absolute steal for a 4 day early bird ticket! You’ll just need your flights and off you go!
