The Sherlocks at Rock City: interview & review

This summer, indie rock band, The Sherlocks, have played sets at Isle of White festival, Liverpool’s Sound City as well as playing their biggest set to date at Reading and Leeds festival.

Despite forming a number of years ago (seven, to be precise) the band, formed of two sets of brothers, released their debut album, ‘Live For The Moment’ just last month.

The album peaked at No 6 in the official charts and off the back of it, they announced an eight date UK tour, including a gig at Nottingham’s Rock City.

Support came from Mowbeck, who brought their grit-pop vibes to the stage, performing their most recent release ‘The Basement’ and ending the set with ‘Talkabout’ (a tune!) Indie pop five piece, Ashfields were next to take to the stage with a seamless set, including songs ‘Eclipse’ and ‘Is It Alright Now?’

By this time the crowd was buzzing and prepared for moshing, crowdsurfing and more importantly, singing along to every single song in The Sherlocks set.

At 8:30, they graced the stage. From ‘Blue’ to ‘Escapade,’ ‘Was It Really Worth It?’ to their latest release ‘Chasing Shadows’ the crowd knew the lyrics to all and each ended with a raucous cheer.

‘Candlelight’ was the point in the set where the stage lights were dimmed and the audience lit up the stage with lighters and phone torches. A moment that made the night v special.

The Sherlocks mentioned how they have always been fond of Nottingham, previously playing at The Bodega, Rescue Rooms and now playing a SOLD OUT Rock City gig, that’s 2,450 people!

The final song of the night was their first ever release ‘Live For The Moment.’ An encore closed the night, which made me realise, firstly, how dedicated their fans are and secondly, how many people in the room have supported the band since the release back in 2014.

Their next stop is Europe, followed by their first headline tour in the US and Canada.

Their next U.K. date is 28th October, at 2Q festival, in Lincoln.
