This is the start of a new series of articles where the Fly FM Sports team round up the latest sporting goings on in Nottingham.
With the international break putting a stop to the Premier League and the Championship, Nottingham Forest have not been in action this week.
However, League 2 sides Notts County and Mansfield Town have both been in action this weekend along with the Nottingham Panthers Ice Hockey team.
Notts County 1-1 Forest Green Rovers
A stoppage-time header from Rob Milsom preserved Notts County’s unbeaten record at Meadow Lane when they clashed with relegation-threatened Forest Green.
The visitors took the lead against the run of play after Omar Bugiel tapped in a cross from Christian Doidge in the 30th minute.
13,000 fans packed out Meadow Lane to see what was an unconvincing performance by County which has most likely brought manager of the month, Kevin Nolan, back to reality.
Colchester United 2-0 Mansfield Town
Colchester took the lead 29 minutes into the match after Sean Murray slotted in a 20 yard shot and just six minutes later, Colchester doubled their lead.
A great delivery from Murray at the far post connected with Mandron who was able to put the ball in the back of Mansfield’s net.
The Stags tried their best to get back into the match with a spectacular diving header from Danny Rose which went over the bar.
Unfortunately, Mansfield’s efforts were in vain with Colchester coming out 2-0 winners.
Nottingham Panthers 2-3 Sheffield Steelers
A packed Motorpoint Arena witnessed the Steelers score the first goal after they cut in off the right wing to fire home hard and low to open the scoring at 12.08.
There were big saves at both ends, but the Steelers doubled their lead at 17.18 despite the Panthers having 23 shots compared to the Steeler’s 9.
Despite a tense finish, the Panthers were unable to equalise against the Steelers and the Sheffield side came away with the win.
